Taurine is one of the most abundant amino acids in the human body!
Taurine is a semi-essential, sulfur-containing amino acid. Perhaps surprisingly, it is not integrated in protein synthesis, unlike almost all other amino acids.
The body can produce some, but not enough for optimal health so supplementation is beneficial for most people. Taurine levels are significantly reduced in individuals in diseased states, those under stress, and the elderly, so these groups especially may need higher daily doses.
While taurine is not a stimulant, it does supports mitochondrial function, cardiovascular circulation, and blood sugar balance—all of which help maintain steady energy without the crash. It is called the "elixir of life" by some for its ability to reduce signs of aging and for its vast spectrum of superpowers to enhance health and wellness!
Nervous System Development and Neuroprotection
Taurine is found in the brain, where it promotes smooth neurotransmission, cognition, memory, and mood. Research shows taurine supports glutamate and GABA neurotransmission through the modulation of intracellular calcium homeostasis; this balance promotes cognition, even in older age.
Supports Liver Health
Taurine is found in bile salts and the large intestine. It is essential in helping the liver break down lipids, encouraging it to store an appropriate amount of fat. It has been demonstrated to have efficient action against fatty liver disease (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic), in part because of its antioxidant increasing abilities, inflammation regulation, and regulation of ethanol metabolism.
Reduces Signs of Aging
Aging is defined as a process that decreases the human body’s capacity to withstand damage, disease, and stress. It affects physiological processes on many levels, including respiratory cycles, vision, blood pressure, postural dynamics, and ultimately raises the risk of mortality and lowers fertility. Recent studies have revealed that aging is caused by the build-up of cellular and molecular damage. Taurine can alleviate and in some cases eradicate this cellular and molecular damage! It contributes to healthy cell functionality, and is a powerful antioxidant that reduces damage causes by free radicals and reactive oxygen species.
Antioxidant
Taurine, itself an antioxidant, is also shown to have a special place as an important natural modulator of the antioxidant defense networks. Its direct antioxidant activity is demonstrated in tissues that have a high taurine concentration, such as the eye and heart, where it scavenges for free radicals. However, much of its antioxidant activity lies in its ability to stabilize mitochondrial function, thereby limiting free radical production in the first place.
Supports Heart Health
Atrial fibrillation (AFib, or AF) is a common irregular heartbeat rhythm (aka arrhythmia). The 2 upper chambers of the heart are called atria and the two lower chambers are called ventricles. In a normal heartbeat, electrical signals tell the atria and ventricles to harmonize for a regular heartbeat and efficient blood pumping. However, with AFib, electrical signals become chaotic and cause desynchronization between the upper and lower chambers, causing an irregular and often rapid heart rhythm. Taurine has been shown to decrease instances of AFib and regulate the heart beat, amongst many other heart benefits!

Dosage Info
There is no RDA for taurine because it is considered "semi-essential" rather than essential. However, studies show that most people can benefit greatly by supplementing with at least 1-6 grams per day.
Our Taurine powder can be taken in water, juice, tea, or kombucha. You can take it alone, or with the other amino acids that we offer in the same glass (NAC, Glycine, and/or Creatine).
Daily Requirement
We recommend 1-6 grams per day taken as a split dose between morning and night on an empty stomach or with light food.
Note that:
1/2 teaspoon = 2.2 g
1 teaspoon = 4.86 g
Enhance Athletic Performance
Recommended to consume 500 mg to 2000 mg (0.5 g to 2 g) 60-120 minutes before exercise for peak bioavailability.
Heart Health
To reduce blood pressure, take 500 mg (0.5 g) three times a day. For irregular heartbeat, take 10 - 20 g of taurine per day in divided doses.
Side Effects
No known toxic effects, but may cause dehydration. Be sure to drink plenty of the cleanest water you can access! Also be aware that supplementation with 35% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide increases hydration, but we recommend taking that separately if you choose to do so, at least an hour before ingesting taurine.
