Boron is called the MIRACLE MINERAL for its
foundational importance and vast array of benefits!
Here are some key facts about BORON, the 5th element on the periodic table:
Food Sources
The bare minimum boron requirement is 3 mg per day (not enough for thriving health), and people who eat whole foods only get only get 1-2 mg per day!
Boron is a crucial component of plant cell walls, so theoretically one could consume it from plant food sources. However, given the depleted status of modern soil, most plants are actually deficient in boron! Research shows 50-70% of boron in soil is gone due to over-farming. This mineral cannot enter the human body through food if it is missing from plants in the first place! Further, naturally occurring plant substances like phytic acid actually inhibit the absorption of boron from sources such as hazelnuts and coffee, so it is also necessary to prepare food sources properly to access what if any boron is present. Supplementation with a high-quality boron product is a viable solution to meeting the body's needs for this trace mineral.

Hormone Support & Regulation
Boron decreases levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SBHG), a compound that transports sex hormones from place to place in the body. Approximately 98% of testosterone is bound to these and other proteins in the blood, rendering them essentially bio-unavailable to the body since bound hormones cannot exit capillaries. This means that only 2% of the body's testosterone is actually available to perform required processes!
Decreased levels of SBHG through boron supplementation increases the body's levels of free testosterone, which has significant beneficial ramifications. Increased testosterone production and use supports recovering from exercise and physical exertion, preventing aches and pains, building muscle mass, and keeping bones strong!
Testosterone is known as the primary male sex hormone that is crucial for the development and maintenance of male characteristics, such as muscle mass, bone density, sex drive, and sperm production. Levels peak in adolescence and early adulthood and gradually decline with age.
However, testosterone is not only a "male hormone" but is actually very important for women too! Women produce this chemical messenger in the ovaries, adrenal glands, muscles, and brain, and it plays a vital role in bone and muscle mass, mood, libido, menstruation and fertility, cognition, and metabolism for them.
Boron supplementation is beneficial for both men and women in regulating testosterone levels! Not only that, but it also supports healthy estrogen levels (especially in peri- and postmenopausal women), as well as estradiol levels in men. Further, boron enhances the body's use of vitamin D which influences the production of sex hormones like estrogen, progesterone, and estradiol.
Metalloid
Some people mistakenly believe boron to be a heavy metal, whereas it is actually a metalloid. This means it has properties that fall between metals and solid non-metals, or semiconductors. It is extremely hard to produce pure boron because of its unique characteristics.
Trace Mineral
Trace minerals are essential micronutrients the body requires in small amounts (usually less than 100 mg per day) to support proper, healthy functioning. Boron is one such substance! There is no established RDA for boron, but studies show the adult body thrives when it ingests bare minimum 3 mg up to 20 mg per day. Trace minerals activate enzymes, which are proteins that regulate various biochemical processes. Boron specifically raises levels of superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase, and glutathione peroxidase.
Excess is Excreted
As a whole element, boron cannot be metabolized or broken down further in the body - it completes its functions by reacting with other chemicals. The excess that the body can't use is excreted mostly by healthy kidney function, and to a smaller degree through feces, sweat, and the breath. Excess boron does not accumulate in the body; if a healthy person consumes more boron than their body needs, then the excess is mostly excreted through the urine.
Cancer Protection
Studies show that boron shows both preventative and therapeutic effects in a range of cancers, including prostate, breast, lung, and cervical cancer. Boron and boron-containing compounds have been shown to affect both reproduction and physiology of cancer cells in many ways. It can also help relieve the detrimental effects of chemotherapy.
Bone Health
Boron is essential for healthy bones! It has been shown to have positive effects on bone development and regeneration, prevent the loss of calcium and magnesium, increase calcium absorption, aid vitamin D utilization, and inhibit bone demineralization. More studies demonstrate that boron-rich diets support faster bone healing as well.
Improves Cognitive Function
Boron improves the brain's electrical activity, cognitive performance, and short-term memory, even for elders. This is not only through its powerful anti-inflammatory effects, but also through its abilities to both protect against compounds harmful to neurological function such as pesticides, and to stimulate the production of beneficial substances to brain health like SAM-e.

Dosage Info
While there is no RDA for boron, this is more indicative of how little the medical industry cares about this mineral than how important it actually is!
Studies show benefits from taking a minimum of 3 mg of boron per day, and suggest that 20 mg per day may be an upper limit. Note that there are also almost no known negative effects of taking it.
Daily Recommendation for our Boron powder
10 mg for adults = 1/64th teaspoon
Take with or food. Can be taken directly in the mouth or added to a cup of water.
Note that this is a very teeny tiny quantity! Therefore, the 5 mL vial of boron powder we offer can potentially be a year's supply of boron powder supplement for one person. We also offer an optional add-on Teeny Tiny Spoon to help measure your preferred daily dose properly.
Upper Limit
The upper limit for boron depends on your age and gender:
- 1–3 years: 3 milligrams/day
- 4–8 years: 6 milligrams/day
- 9–13 years: 11 milligrams/day
- 14–18 years: 17 milligrams/day
- Adults 19–50 years: 20 milligrams/day
- Pregnant women : 17–20 milligrams/day
- Women who are breastfeeding: 17–20 milligrams/day
