Paprika

Paprika is made from dried and ground peppers in the Capsicum annuum family, which includes bell and cayenne peppers. Since a variety of peppers can be used, flavor and nutrition profiles can vary from product to product and amongst sweet, smoky, and hot varieties.

Spicy peppers contain capsaicin, a compound with a number of healthful benefits: it relieves pain, alleviates psoriasis, and has anti-cancer, anti-diabetes, and weight loss properties!

Red peppers (which are obviously usually used to make lovely red paprika) are high in vitamin A, carotenoids including beta carotene, lutein, and a variety of other antioxidants!

Antioxidants of course protect the body from oxidative stress caused by free radicals and reduce inflammation.

Paprika is thought to have originated in Mexico, but now Hungary is the world's leading producer of this pantry staple!
