Cinnamon
This beloved pantry staple graces tables across the world and comes from the bark of a tree!
Cinnamon
Cinnamon is obtained from the inner bark of several species of trees in the Cinnamomum genus. The bark curls into tubes as it dries, yielding the recognizable cinnamon stick! Cinnamon powder is made by grinding the sticks.
It has been used throughout history as a culinary spice, incense, money, medicine, and even in mummification!
Cinnamon is a beloved addition to sweet and savory dishes around the world. There are several varieties of this warming spice; cassia and Ceylon are a few of the more popular variants.
Its distinctive smell and taste are a result of aromatic chemical compounds and essential oils, including cinnamaldehyde.
