Health Benefits of Agave

The blue agave plant is a succulent species in the Asparagaceae family. It is of considerable economic importance to regions of Mexico, where it is alternatively known as agave tequilana, because it is used to make tequila!

It grows only in arid and semiarid environments, usually at elevations over 5000 feet.

It is used as a sugar substitute and has a low glycemic index (GI). Low GI foods help control blood sugar!

Agave also contains B vitamins, which support metabolism and cardiovascular health, improve immunity, and are vital to growing a baby during pregnancy. With levels of vitamin K as well, it can also help combat depression!
